Meet 8 new stores on the way to Jordan Creek Town Center spanning a new tavern to kid spots

Jordan Creek Town Center is a must-visit stop for many as the seasons change and the West Des Moines shopping mall and entertainment center has plenty of changes in store as the leaves start to fall.

The 19-year-old center is nearing 100% capacity and Jordan Creek Town Center general manager Randy Tennison cites a strong metro economy, dedicated consumers, and a one-stop must-see for entertainment and shopping as reasons for Jordan Creek’s constant staying power.

“Jordan Creek is definitely thriving right now. The mall is a great place for people to just come to and hangout,” Tennison said. “We have great restaurants, we have the movie theatre, we have events around the lake so it’s kind of an all-inclusive entertainment location.”

A number of changes in recent months have made the shopping center grow even further in time for the holiday season. Here’s a guide to what’s going on at Jordan Creek Town Center.

Last December, Seattle-based Amazon announced plans to open an Amazon 4-star store at the shopping mall filled with a rotating stock of highly rated products. It even had a spot, ready to take over the former Soft Surroundings space.

Amazon closed 68 of its brick-and-mortar storefronts in March and cancelled proposed store openings to refocus efforts on Whole Foods and other technologies, according to USA Today. The e-commerce giant’s store cancellation included its first Iowa store which planned to open in spring 2022. There are no reported plans to reopen any of the cancelled or closed stores.

An Iowa Store is Letting Customers Drink Wine While They Shop

Have you ever spent an hour shopping for furniture and thought, “man, I could use a drink right now!”? If so, we have some good news to share!

According to a new article from the Des Moines Register, Homemakers Furniture in Urbandale has started offering a variety of alcoholic beverages to customers. The 215,000-square-foot store has a little cafe called HOMEgrounds that first opened in 2019, and now in addition to snacks and coffee, the cafe menu includes beer, wine, and seltzer!

 

When you’re shopping at Homemakers furniture at 10215 Douglas Ave, your beer options include Bud Light, Busch Light, Michelob Ultra, Big Grove’s Easy Eddy IPA, and Exile Brewing Company’s Ruthie. If wine is more your style, you can order Sutter Home‘s chardonnay, cabernet, or pinot grigio by the glass. And finally, the cafe offers fruit punch and strawberry lemonade Truly seltzers. Drinks cost $5 apiece.

Why did Homemakers decide to add these options to their cafe? It’s actually pretty simple. The Des Moines Register reports that assistant vice president of Homemakers Furniture Jason Merschman said, “Our goal is for everybody to enjoy the shopping and browsing experience.” In addition to the beer, wine, and seltzer, HOMEgrounds also has fresh-baked cookies and a wide variety of Starbucks beverages, including lattes, iced coffee, cappuccinos, and more. And yes, that includes pumpkin spice flavors for fall!

Now when you’re shopping for a sofa or a new dining room set, you can sip on a cold beer or glass of wine. Urbandale-based furniture store homemakers.com/” data-ylk=”slk:Homemakers Furniture” class=”link “Homemakers Furniture is hoping for another heavy pour of retail success with its recent launch of in-store alcohol purchases at its 215,000-square-foot showroom.

The popular stop for local interior design lovers soft launched its in-store alcohol last month at the store’s HOMEgrounds café area that serves snacks like cookies and Starbucks coffee drinks.

The store’s café is now offering select beer, wine, and seltzers for $5 per drink for customers to “sip while they shop.”

Assistant vice president Jason Merschman said the recent move is a part of company plans to enhance its shopping experience in the metro.

“At Homemakers, we are re-inventing the furniture shopping experience. In 2019, we rolled out our non-commission sales policy to help remove some of the stigma around the high-pressure shopping experience often found with a commissioned sales team,” Merschman said in a news release.

What alcohol can customers order at Homemakers?

Canned and bottled beer options from local craft breweries and longtime industry giants are available in the store cafe. Customers can order 16-ounce bottles of Bud Light and Michelob Ultra alongside cans of Busch Light.

Craft brews include an IPA from Iowa City-based Big Grove Brewery & Taproom, which just opened a space near downtown Des Moines, and Ruthie lager from Exile Brewing Co.

Truly Seltzers in fruit punch and strawberry lemonade flavors come in 12-ounce cans. Customers can order a chardonnay, pinot grigio or cabernet from Sutter Home in a 6-ounce pour or by the bottle.
